Classic Car & Bike Show

Home

Welcome to the website for the Adrian Flux Classic

 (formerly the Wroughton Classic).

wroughton_175_173The Wroughton Classic is a family show that grew from an idea of putting on a show 'for enthusiasts by enthusiasts', in other words bringing together groups of people who not only took a pride in their own 'classic', but delighted in the opportunity to get together with fellow enthusiasts to share hints and tips, swap notes, anecdotes and experiences and take time out from everyday life to just enjoy the nostalgic world of classic cars and bikes.

The first Wroughton Classic started modestly in 2006, a field, a few loos a motley crew of friends and relatives and around 600 classic vehicles. From here, the show grew from strength to strength with an amazing range of fantastic vehicles joining in and a growing number of enthusiasts giving their support to the event.

The show went on to host the much loved 'Scrapheap Challenge', feature in 'Classic Gear' with presenter Chris Searle and provide valuable research material for several BBC documentaries and shows and was attended by local BBC radio interviewing, talking to visitors and exhibitors and broadcasting live from the show ground capturing the relaxed, informal 'festival' atmosphere of the event that was becoming it's trademark. The show also attracted a growing number of autojumblers, traders and crafters with plenty for all to see and do.

wroughton_142_140By 2008 there were over 2500 classic vehicle exhibits and more than 25000 visitors attending over the weekend leading to plans for an even bigger and better show for 2009. With over a thousand Jags expected plus an amazing programme of speakers, new exhibitors and family activities, craft show, collectors fair, Sodbury sortout, even more autojumblers and traders plus a formal evening dinner booked, the show was all set to be the best yet. Unfortunately an unavoidable last minute change of location reduced to the show dramatically for 2009, although there was still an amazing and varied turnout ensuring there were still plenty of top quality classics to be seen.

What can we say about the 2009 Adrian Flux Show at Beaulieu?

..... Beautiful Weather, Beautiful Setting and Beautiful cars!

Despite a troubled year (more details) and effectively only 3 weeks to reshedule the whole show, supporters of this popular classic car and bike show proved that they were not beaten yet!

With glorious sunshine and a wide range of treasured exhibits on show, just about everyone agreed that this was indeed a really good day out for all and the organisers sent out a big THANK YOU for all the fantastic cars and bikes that came along and joined them at Beaulieu.

Although there were not the same QUANTITY of cars as seen in previous years as for instance in 2008 where over 2,500 cars and 26000 visitors had attended (see about us), the QUALITY and wide range of exhibits was definitately still there!

The Car of the show was without doubt a fantastic Jaguar SS1, in amazing condition and lovingly restored and cared for by a unique father, Irwin Jewell, son and grandson team!

As winners of the Adrian Flux Classic Vehicle of the Show Award, this beautiful SS1 won its owners a huge glittering cup and a generous £500 voucher for insurance with Adrian Flux.

Runners up were;

  • Phill Smith with a superb 20th Anniversary Silver Mini who was awarded the second place voucher for £150,
  • Steve Denning with an excellent 1938 Fiat Topolino Siata Special who was awarded the third place voucher for £50 and
  • Michael Field with his really nice Triumph TR5 who was awarded a special voucher for £30.

With the much sought after KVS Club Stand award again on offer, several clubs put a huge effort into their club displays and a special mention must be made of the Hampshire Bygones and Swindon Capri Clubs, both of whom put on excellent shows.

However, the award for the best club stand of the show went to the Panhard et Levassor club who, by the nature of the rarity of their vehicles are only a very small club with the few members they have spread out all over the country yet managed an amazing turnout with an almost unheard of 10 members and their cars!

Visitors, exhibitors and their families were able to enjoy the fantastic setting of Beaulieu National Motor Museum along with its amazing collection of classic vehicles, its majestic Palace House, stunning Historic Abbey and gardens, their new Top Gear Exhibition, the James Bond Experience, children's rides, the monorail and much more, all in addition to the excellent exhibits that joined the 2009 Adrian Flux Classic.

The delightful and very popular 'Little Red Bus' gave rides to younger children around the site throughout the weekend. Children were particulalry delighted to see the Little Red Bus lined up next to one of Beaulieu's own special attractions!

The Police Vehicles Enthusiasts' Club (PVEC) again provided rides for all ages in their marvellous, authentic collection of classic police vehicles. They raised just over £210 giving rides with full 'blues and twos' which was shared between two charities including the Teenage Cancer Trust

Then of course there was 'STAN' that loveable character from his very own, children's book, and of course his scarecrow friend 'Topper' who were also raising funds for the Teenage Cancer Trust! (Stan's very own, delightfully illustrated children's stories can be seen on author and car enthusiast Darrell Cunningham's website) You can even watch a short video of STAN and TOPPER as they prepared to come along to Beaulieu HERE

Winners of the CLASSIC CAR MART free subscription memberships are as follows:

  • A.Mackinnon, Swindon
  • B.Ivhold, Sweden
  • T.Fletcher, Bournemouth

All in all, it was a lovely, friendly and very enjoyable day out for everyone at Beaulieu this year. To see photos of the exhibts at this year's show click HERE

"We were stunned by the number of messages of support we received in the run up to the show, and of course touched by the number of people who came up to us and said "thanks for working so hard to keep the show going" said Greg Dunningham, one of the show organisers.

"With all the last minute changes and the new location, we had no idea what to expect but we knew we wouldn't achieve the same sort of numbers as last year," added fellow organiser Jo Dunningham, "we felt we just couldn't let people down by abandoning the show completely. We can't thank enough all those who supported us, including all the staff at Beaulieu without whom the show would simply not have been possible this year."

Both of the organisers agreed, "we have been let down this year by our choice of venue, and we have unfortunately lost a lot financially but we are really grateful for the support we have had from visitors and exhibitors alike. If we ever can we will be back, ideally in or near to Swindon and with what has become our more usual 2 day, affordable, family show with it's trademark, relaxed, very sociable 'festival' feel to it!"
